15 Songs That Always Make Me Feel Good

To inspire Belinda, who has upcoming surgery … and a new iPod

Why do some songs make us feel good, just hearing them? Sometimes it’s the lyrics. Sometimes it’s the music itself. Sometimes it’s simply a memory associated with the song. And sometimes you can’t explain why, it just does. What songs make you feel good? Post your choices in the comments!

Did you hear Uncle Kracker did a duet with Kenny Chesney? Talk about odd bedfellows.

Nice list, though. I think I have a majority of those somewhere on iTunes. May have to make an “SJ Playlist.”

I made a list, and I can’t believe how hard it was to JUST list 15!

They’re numbered, but the numbers don’t give any significance:

    1. Good Morning Starshine - Oliver
    2. Those Were The Days - Mary Hopkin
    3. Downtown - Petula Clark
    4. Spooky - Classics IV
    5. The Losing End - Neil Young (When this song comes on, it doesn’t matter where I am - I’ll start singing along!)
    6. I do The Rock - Tim Curry
    7. 1-2-3 - Len Barry
    8. Jesus Is Just All Right With Me - The Doobie Brothers
    9. Monday Monday - The Mammas & The Papas
    10. Anyone’s version of The Girl From Ipenema
    11. Reach Out I’ll Be There - The Four Tops
    12. Come On In - The Music Machine
    13. Young Girl - Gary Puckett & The Union Gap
    14. Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head - B J Thomas
    15. I’m Not In Love - 10cc

But that leaves out Straight To Hell - Drivin N’ Cryin
    Shadows - Sleepwalk
Joe Jackson - Is She Really Going Out With Him
Zager & Evans - In The Year 2525
Sly & the Family Stone - Hot Fun In The Summertime
    Nazz - Hello It’s Me
The Bee Gees - How Can You Mend a Broken Heart
Three Dog Night - It’s For You
Joni Mitchell, Eddie Fisher, Ray Price, Marty Robbins, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Kinks, T-Rex …

The ones in my list are songs that will make me smile when they come on the radio!

Yes, I MADE myself stop at 15! The list was supposed to be 10, but just kept going …

Several of yours would be on my extended list, but NOT “Jesus Is Just Alright” (which I’ve never liked) or “In The Year 2525″ (which depresses me). And not ANY Union Gap song. But heck, “The Girl From Ipanema” should have been in my top 10!!!

And you picked the wrong BJ Thomas song. ;)

  4. kilax Says:

Definitely any of ZZ Top Greatest Hits CD. It reminds me of being at home with my family.

  5. Belinda Says:

This is just awesome, thanks. And what IS it about “Blister in the Sun?” Seriously–that song has no right to invoke such happy joy bounciness!

Hopefully, you will hear from me again soon…I am now whiling away my last few hours…

  6. SJ Says:

Kim, YES! I love ZZ Top!!!

Belinda, we’re all rooting for you, hon! (f)

I LOVE that you have “I Can See Clearly Now” on your list. It would probably be the first on mine, too. It seems every time I hear it there’s a huge turn for the better in my life. Now, I may just be looking at it from a biased angle, but it does seem that way. In fact, I just heard it last night and am wondering what new thing is coming up.

  10. BOTDA Says:

Hey, how come you did not nominate yourself - there is some great stuff here.

Save Leigh Ann won today, by the way.

    Thank you,

Hey, I just stumbled upon your site, and I love it. And what a great list this one is. I didn’t see anyone mention “Obla Di Obla Da.” That song never fails to make me happy.
